I must admit that I have to maintain a balance between talking ALL about myself, then talking ALL about my shop (go ahead and take a peek. You know you want to.) and then talking about other stuff. Since I've noticed I've gained a lot of new followers recently I figured I'd share a bit about myself.
My name is Ayla (pronouced EYE-LAH) hence the name of my shop. (I know totally unique right?)
My mother planned to name me Jane but then read the book Clan of the Cave Bear and decided Ayla is the name for me. Most people pronouce it A-la, I-yalla, Al-ya or in some cases just Ms. Brown because they are afraid to attempt the pronouncation.

I was born and raised in Chicago, IL and then unpleasantly moved to CT during high school.
It really sucked moving out of my homeland as a teenager because I had no friends and of course I moved into a predominately white neighborhood where people really thought brown people were a myth.
Despite my hesitation I decided to stay in CT and attend UCONN. The first few years kind of sucked but they ended very well. I met the 2 most important people in my life while there so that is awesome.
I headed off to graduate school in NYC where I sucked poorly at my degree which has lead to me become a graduate school drop-out. In my defense it was physics (super hard)
However I value my time in NYC so much it was probably the most influential experiences in my life. I learned and experienced so much. No words can describe how much I LOVED/LOVE NYC. I have no regrets regarding the outcome with school and living in NYC.
That being said I became interested in the crafty-word around that time. I have always been somewhat crafty. I learned to crochet when I was younger and I grew up with a sewing room/crafting room but I never thought of it as a potential business venture. In fact, I never thought I would want to be a business owner and now I feel that is exactly what I want to do. I'm so excited to grow business and be my own boss.
I currently live in Charlottesville, VA with my boyfriend as he finishes up his Ph.D in physics (yea..he's much smarter than me). I work in the support department for an online retailer. (so if you ever have some customer support issues, hit me up for the best way to handle them).
I love watching movies(some of you already know this) and I love researching actors in movies. I am really good at recognizing faces not so much names but I usually can remember most actors I see in a movie.
I love to cook and lately I can't seem to cook without my camera so I can take pictures of everything and blog about it.(wow..I'm such a blogger)
Anyway, that is a little bit of me to share with my new followers!
Happy Thursday!!

I laughed at the Ms. Brown...I guess it's good you have an easy last name if people struggle with your first. No one has ever mispronounced my first name-haha. I'm really good at recognizing faces too, even when they have prosthetic makeup or whatever on. Also, random: you have such perfect teeth. You could be on a toothpaste commercial!
ReplyDeleteLoved to see a bit more about you! After living in Washington my whole life and really wanting to find a new adventure elsewhere, the fact that you've lived in a few different states is inspiring! NY sounds amazing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing all this, all at once!
ReplyDeleteI have lived in Chicago and NY, but I think I prefer Chicago.
I'm proud to say I always pronounced your name properly, in my mind :)
I have been following you blog for a long time and I did not know all that about you. Physics sounds scary, drop out or not I'm impressed. I lived in NYC for 8 years and I know what you mean, It's the best city ever. Luckily I met my husband there so we get to visit often. Sounds like you are enjoying being a business owner and blogger, and I look forward to following you on your journey.
