My most recent Indie movie finds are

This is a very very cute movie with Chris Messina(The Mindy Project) and Jenna Fischer(The Office). Jenna plays this woman that hasn't quite found her path in life yet. She works temps jobs and is struggling and you want to feel sad for her because she is getting older but I just can't. I don't feel sad because we have all gone through a phase where we haven't found what we want to do or where we are going. If you haven't gone through it yet then you'll probably go through it at some point. Anyway, she meets Chris who is a street performer who seems like he has some direction but he doesn't really have a job and doesn't make much working as a street performer. The movie is about how Jenna has to figure out her life and gain confidence in what she wants to do and how she interacts with her family, friends, and Chris. I really enjoyed this film and must say that Netflix knew what they were doing when they suggested this movie to me. It's on Watch Instantly.

I can't remember if I've discussed this film before but if I have then you'll read about it again. I love this movie. It's really cute and can I say I just adore Ryan Gosling. Now, Ryan does not look super hot in this film. He has this really awkward mustache and he wears lots of clothes. The movie is about how Ryan suffers from a delusion and thinks a doll he purchased online is his girlfriend. I really love how the community embraces this delusion for Ryan because they care about him. It really is a great film despite the name. Just have to watch it.

Alright, as I was just researching this film I learned that this is a sequel to 2 days in Paris. I have not seen the first one and I still enjoyed the film. I had no clue it was a sequel. The story is about Marion (Julie Delpy) and Mingus(Chris Rock) as they endure the visit of Marion's family for 2 days. It's a cute film and a great reminder how families drive you insane even if it's for a short period of time. Now, that I've seen this one I am curios to watch the first one and perhaps do another review.
I hope you enjoyed my reviews and let me know if you have any movie suggestions. All of these films are available on Netflix's Watch Instantly.
Happy Tuesday!
Lars and the Real Girl is one of my favorites. Like, maybe top 10 overall. It was just so different and touching, and it made me wish more movies were like it.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I think the film is so touching and I really love how the community embraces Lars despite the weirdness. This is a good example of a great Indie film. So different from main stream movies.
DeleteI have to see Lars and the real girl, it looks really good!
ReplyDeleteI watched The Giant Mechanical Man Sunday night after the Super Bowl and loved it! Lars and the Real Girl is a favorite too.
ReplyDeleteHey lady! I just found you from Caseta de Paper and Your right! I don't know what I would have done if it wasn't for Netflix's! I'm half way through 2 days in New York...hilarious! I'm at the brain tumor part..hehe.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to put The Giant Mechanical Man on my to-watch list!
I recently saw the indie movie Take the Waltz with Michelle williams, sarah silverman, and seth rogen and it was suprisingly good! Very emotional! =)

I've actually never seen any of these...but I don't usually spend much time watching movies/TV/etc because I simply don't have the time! When I do watch movies, they tend to be more indie so I can see something at least a little different from the same plots and actors I've seen time and again.
ReplyDeleteI loved Lars and the Real Girl too. It's probably one of my all-time favs. I watched The Giant Mechanical Man recently, and to be honest, I almost turned it off a couple of times. Maybe it just hit too close to home...especially Chris Messina's character, like SPOILER ALERT when his girlfriend breaks up with him and he's just like "yeah, I'm not doing that anymore (the street performing); it's not a valued skill" and you think he's just resigned himself to scooping shit all day. I almost turned it off then because I guess I've just known too many incredibly artistic and smart folks in real life who's talents are "not valued" and who've had to give up and work crap jobs. Of course, he does go back to it, and he and Jenna's character get together, which is exactly what you want to happen in the movie. And by the way, I did feel bad for her, not because she doesn't know what she wants to do with her life, but because everyone she interacts with in life (with the exception of Messina) SUUUUUCKS.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen 2 Days in NY, but I did see 2 Days in Paris. I didn't really love it, but you should watch it. I do like Julie Delpy a lot.
we love movies too. we watch a lot of old ones and we love IFC were they're always playing great foreign films. just watched amelie for the umpteenth time a couple of weeks ago. while we were at our friends camp we watched the new Star Trek. Have to say, they totally pulled it off. Very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteHey lady! I have to thank for mentioning the movie The Giant Mechanical Man...I just finished it on netflix's and it was adorable!!! I'm such a big jenna fischer fan and the movie just made me smile =) I sometimes feel lost in my life and I'm happy it had a great happy ending. And Topher Grace's hair was epicly hilarious!! =)
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the recommendation!!
