Only got twenty dollars in my pocket...

I'm usually slow on learning about the latest songs. My best friend is really into music so I usually find out about new stuff from her. More recently she told me I need to listen to Thrift Shop and I was like ..ok sure. I did and it's hilarious. Naturally the song is already on the radio. I really feel like an old person when it comes to music.

The song is great and the video is hilarious.

Of course whenever I enter a thrift shop I am going to think of this song. Yesterday, I stopped off at one of the Goodwill's in my area just to see if they had an interesting finds. I was there around 11 am on a Thursday and the place was packed. My first thought was everyone heard the song and now they want to go to the thrift shop. My second thought was don't you people have jobs? (I always think that whenever I see too many people shopping on a weekday during standard working hours. )

The Goodwill I visited often has good furniture finds. I have found a lot of stuff there so I was  hoping I'll find more good stuff. However since it was so packed I really had to snatch everything I want. Shit gets real at a thrift shop.

The last time I was at the Goodwill I was looking for some chairs for Christmas. We had 8 chairs and 10 people were coming. I went with my friend to see if we can find something really cheap. I was hoping to get just regular aluminum chairs when I saw these really nice looking wooden chairs. They were 3 bucks and I was like PERFECT.

Why is it, as we are looking around holding the chairs this one man comes up to me and says ' wow..those are really nice chairs. Those are very old chairs. You know they are old because they didn't use nails in them. They are all wood'. (Thanks for the history lesson. I am now buying chairs that Thomas Jefferson made for 3 bucks. awesome)

As we make our way to the register a woman stops us and was like.. 'those are really nice chairs'. I could tell she was trying to see if I would put them down so she can grab them. I held tight and walked up to the register and of course the cashier said very loudly 'You are going to buy those chairs'. Well of course I am going to buy these chairs. I am at the register with my wallet hoping I don't get jumped in the parking lot over these nice Jeffersonian chairs.

I think that is the most interaction I've ever had with someone at a thrift store. Now back to my finds from yesterday. I didn't have anything in particular in mind but I figured I'd take a look anyway.

Check out my finds below.

Picture Frames. 4 wooden frames for 4 dollars. Awesome. I definitely needed frames since I have recently got a lot of artwork in the 'reject' swap I participated in. I plan on painting them before I use them.

I love Lamps! Yes, I desperately needed lamps for our bedroom. Right now we just have one that is slowly falling apart but I couldn't bring myself to actually buy brand new lamps. I was very excited that I found a pair. I am going to get some spray paint and paint them a different color. Not sure which could would be great though. Any suggestions?

These awesome vases. I don't really have a spot for them yet but they were really cute and 1.00 so why not?

I spent a total of 13.00. I felt like a baller when I left carrying 3 bags.

Have you've found anything cool at a thrift shop or Goodwill?

Happy Friday!!

*I joke about Thomas Jefferson because the people in my area are obsessed over him. They think he was amazing. I do agree he did some interesting things but the whole 'plantation' owner thing and only freeing 4 slaves that were also his children kind of overshadows everything else he did.*

  1. Crack me up. I just got the kids 3 pairs of shoes (Clarks and Crocs for Gus, Crocs for Greta) for $8. I always feel funny at the thrift store when I find something good, like I don't want anyone to see the great score I've found.

Hubs read a biography on Jefferson and thought he was absolutely brilliant, especially when it came to his government ideas, but was also completely insane and a little extreme. I always think that if someone is really extraordinary in one area of the brain, then the other areas don't work quite as well.

  2. Hahaha, "I am now buying chairs that Thomas Jefferson made for three bucks." Shit does get real at a thrift store, especially a GoodWill. I don't know what it is about that chain, but everybody is HARDCORE. And they will totally steal your stuff if you put it down for .05 seconds.

I'm in this big ass coat, from that thrift shop down the road...

  8. I LOVE thrift store shopping! I could spend all day shopping at thrift stores! I found recently a large mid-century oil painting for great bargain at a local Veteran's Thrift store and it now hangs above my sofa! And yes, I want to see those chairs too!
